Humbird offerings and workshops for festivals and groups

Story in Songs: A Songwriting Workshop : This is a creative writing and song crafting workshop centered on lyrical storytelling. This workshop can be catered to beginning songwriters or professional musicians, hobby performers or a classroom of young students. Writing prompts focus on an awareness of place and authentic engagement with landscape as a way to revel in the magic of sculpting words into lyrics, and lyrics into melody.

Fairytales As A Form Of Political Subversion: A Creative Writing Workshop : Dive into the historical, religious and political power of fairytales to shape and sculpt a society - for better or worse - and try your own hand at writing prompts that turn familiar narratives on their head and challenge the status quo and the idea of “happily ever after”.

As a Norwegian-American, Undlin focuses in on the well-worn tales of Northern Europe as a starting point. Discussions and prompts will center on the repercussions of certain beloved tales as they relate to gender, landscape, world war, consumerism, and political hierarchy. These same stories have the capacity to inspire change, accountability and rebellion. It is a bubbling cauldron of possibility - in this workshop, we’ll be stirring the pot.

Stories From the Hearth : Join Humbird for a different sort of set than you might expect. Instead of singing indie folk songs into a microphone, the members of Humbird invite you into a world of deep dark forests, winter blizzards, haunted legends and strange riddles. Combining earthy tales with experimental soundscapes, these stories are important, no matter your age, though they are not filtered. Scary turns provide important insight and “happily ever after” is rarely that simple. Expect the unexpected from characters the whole family will come to love.
