For the past decade Tatiana Hargreaves has been recognized as an outstanding old time fiddler in her award winning duo with Allison de Groot and her band Hard Drive. With the Tati Plays Tex project, she is stepping out on her own as a virtuosic bluegrass fiddler and band leader, embracing the wildness of legendary bluegrass fiddler Tex Logan.
From placing first at the Clifftop Appalachian Fiddle Contest in 2009, to her bluegrass fiddling on Laurie Lewis’ GRAMMY-nominated album The Hazel And Alice Sessions, Hargreaves shows a musical fluency that flows between old time and bluegrass worlds with ease. She has performed with musicians such as the Dave Matthews Band, Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Jerry Douglas and the Transatlantic Sessions, Laurie Lewis, Darol Anger, Michael Daves, Bruce Molsky and Jake Blount.
Her upcoming album Tati Plays Tex is a tribute to the inventiveness and energy of Benjamin Franklin “Tex” Logan, who not only played fiddle with the likes of Bill Monroe, Peter Rowan and Wilma Lee Cooper but also led a successful career conducting complex mathematical research at Bell Laboratories in the Communications Theory department.
The album will be released in time for Tex Logan’s centennial in June 2027 is produced by Michael Daves and features Peter Rowan, Sam Bush, Alice Gerrard, Jerry Douglas, Rushad Eggleston, Butch Robins, Dashawn Hickman alongside her long term collaborators in Hard Drive and Allison de Groot.
